The Alhambra Civic Center Library and Learning Center is a 45,000 SF structure built over a two level 240 car subterranean parking garage. The library structure is a two-story steel moment resisting frame. The second floor is metal deck with a concrete slab while the roof is metal deck with rigid insulation and roofing. Mechanical units are located on the roof and are mounted on concrete pads.

The second floor exterior decks are mortar set ceramic tiles. Exterior walls are plaster over metal studs and glass and aluminum windows. Interiors include all finishes, cabinetry and steel book stack shelving system. The garage structure is comprised of cast-in-place concrete and shotcrete perimeter walls against a soldier pile shoring system. Associated site work is also included.

The library contains conference rooms, study rooms, children’s book and reading area, computer terminals and reference desk. According to the City of Alhambra, the Library is one of the busiest in California, circulating as many as 500 items an hour. On average, about 44,000 individuals visit the library every month and check out about 550,000 items every year.
