The Public Safety Complex is located at the Lompoc Valley Center. The project consists of a 36,678-SF academic building, 8,568-SF six-story fire tower, 12,286-SF apparatus storage building, a 42,406-SF shooting range, scenario village, prop house, fitness track, skid pad/slow speed driving skills area, and a one-mile emergency vehicle operator course (EVOC).
The new public safety complex will address the classroom and primary laboratory needs of the public safety programs of the college, which include fire science, emergency medical technology, hazardous materials handling, and the fire and police academies for the college.
The entire facility is designed to allow each academy simultaneous use of the training facilities. In the main classroom building, fitness areas, locker rooms, and conference rooms are laid out as shared facilities used by both fire and police programs. The fire tower, prop house, EVOC, etc., can also be used by both academies. One of the goals for the project is to accommodate joint training exercises, which would enable police, fire and EMT to train together, and simulate coordinated efforts they may face in the real world.
